Pfizer posts better-than-expected quarterly revenue

Strong earnings reports of the world's largest corporations have triggered a positive reaction in the US stock market. Pfizer raised its earnings forecast for 2022 and beat its third-quarter expectations. The company now expects earnings per share of $6.40 to $6.50 for the year, up from the previous forecast of $6.30 to $6.45. The pharmaceutical giant also revised its sales expectations and now sees revenue for the year to be between $99.5 billion and $102 billion.

Pfizer raised its full-year sales guidance for its Covid-19 vaccine to $34 billion this year, up by $2 billion from its previous expectations. It maintained its revenue expectations for Paxlovid, an antivirus pill, at $22 billion. Pfizer's Q3 net income rose by 6% to $8.6 billion from the previous year. The firm saw a 4% increase in its shares in premarket trading.

Premarket trading

Abiomed's shares grew by 51.6% in premarket trading after agreeing to be acquired by Johnson & Johnson for nearly $16.6 billion. J&J will pay $380 per share to the producer of heart, lung, and kidney treatment. J&J's shares dropped by 0.7%.

Uber gained 8.8% after reporting better-than-expected quarterly revenue. The company saw a surge in bookings from a quarter ago.

SoFi's shares advanced by 14.3% in premarket trading, following a smaller-than-expected quarterly loss. The fintech company also raised its revenue outlook.

Goodyear's shares fell by 8.3%, after reporting a third-quarter earning loss. According to the tire maker, its results were impacted by higher costs and a stronger US dollar.

Hologic gained 7.6%, after reporting better-than-expected quarterly profit and releasing an optimistic outlook.

Following yesterday's fall, demand for the S&P 500 index increased. The bulls should protect support at $3,861 and $3,835. Demand is likely to remain strong for as long as the index trades above these levels. In this light, the price may rise to $3,905, with the target at $3,942. In such a case, we may expect a bullish correction to $3.968 resistance. The most distant target stands at around $4,000. Alternatively, if the price goes down and breaks through $3,861, the bears may push the trading instrument to $3,835 and $3,808, with the target at $3,773 support.
