Cryptocurrencies Not Mentioned in Trump's Inaugural Speech

This image is no longer relevant

After Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, the cryptocurrency market experienced significant fluctuations. Despite the anticipated crypto-related initiatives that were part of his campaign promises, Trump did not address the topic in his inaugural speech or in the outlined future priorities under "America First." Instead, his focus was on issues such as public safety, energy independence, government reforms, and restoring traditional American values.

During his campaign, Trump voiced support for cryptocurrencies, pledging to protect individual rights, oppose a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), and promising to advocate for the commutation of Ross Ulbricht's life sentence. He also mentioned the possibility of establishing a cryptocurrency council and vowed to challenge CBDCs, which some Republican lawmakers argue could lead to increased government surveillance. However, these topics were conspicuously absent from his inaugural address and initial policy agenda. The market reacted negatively, with Bitcoin's price falling from its record high, reflecting declining investor confidence in Trump's pro-crypto policies.

Adding to the volatility in the cryptocurrency market, Trump launched the TRUMP memecoin on the Solana blockchain. While the coin had an explosive start, it drew criticism from experts. Additionally, his support for the launch of the DeFi protocol World Liberty Financial raised skepticism about its seriousness.

Although there were no immediate actions concerning cryptocurrencies, Trump's appointments of figures like David Sacks, dubbed the "Czar of Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrencies," and crypto advocate Paul Atkins, nominated as the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), signal potential openness toward engaging with the cryptocurrency industry. Investors and analysts remain cautiously optimistic, awaiting tangible developments that could reshape the U.S. stance on cryptocurrencies under Trump's administration.
